First Annual Rock to the Future Showcase and Benefit - June 5

This year I have been a part of a volunteer committee (PPRA's PRoactive) of public relation professionals that have been offering pro-bono PR consultant work for one of Philadelphia's newest non-profits, Rock to the Future. PPRA's PRoactive committee is made up of PPRA members willing to help this new organization get tips about how to creatively introduce the organization to the community.

Music education is something that many schools have cut out so Rock to the Future is introducing music to a select group of Philadelphia students. Rock to the Future offers a unique after-school music education and youth development program at no cost to students. It is the only program of its kind in the city. It is open to Philadelphia students ages 9-14. The program focuses on incorporating music education with academics to create success in school and in life by improving cognitive development, learning capacity, socialization skills, self-esteem and creative thinking. Students learn to play an instrument – their choice of guitar, bass guitar, drums, vocals or keyboards – and also receive homework help. Rock to the Future was founded in 2010 and June concludes their programing for the school year.  There is still one chance to see the students perform at their end of the year First Annual Rock to the Future Showcase and Benefit.

Check out this YouTube video that gives you a sneak peak of the students' musical talents!
