First Annual Rock to the Future Showcase and Benefit - June 5

This year I have been a part of a volunteer committee (PPRA's PRoactive) of public relation professionals that have been offering pro-bono PR consultant work for one of Philadelphia's newest non-profits, Rock to the Future. PPRA's PRoactive committee is made up of PPRA members willing to help this new organization get tips about how to creatively introduce the organization to the community.

Music education is something that many schools have cut out so Rock to the Future is introducing music to a select group of Philadelphia students. Rock to the Future offers a unique after-school music education and youth development program at no cost to students. It is the only program of its kind in the city. It is open to Philadelphia students ages 9-14. The program focuses on incorporating music education with academics to create success in school and in life by improving cognitive development, learning capacity, socialization skills, self-esteem and creative thinking. Students learn to play an instrument – their choice of guitar, bass guitar, drums, vocals or keyboards – and also receive homework help. Rock to the Future was founded in 2010 and June concludes their programing for the school year.  There is still one chance to see the students perform at their end of the year First Annual Rock to the Future Showcase and Benefit.

Check out this YouTube video that gives you a sneak peak of the students' musical talents!

Come out to see the First Annual Rock to the Future Showcase and Benefit on June 5th at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia at 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm. The showcase will include musical performances from Rock to the Future students (Philly Rock n Rollers, Starlight City, and The Rough Rockers). Students will perform original songs and covers from The Beatles, Muse, Elvis Presley, Blink 182, and more. From 7:30 pm-10:00 pm local favorites Grandchildren, Creeping Weeds, and The Grand Nationals will take the stage. For just $10 you can enjoy both the Rock to the Future showcase and the local bands concert – 5 hours of musical entertainment!  There is even a raffle for a chance to win some hot prizes! All proceeds from the night will go towards the 2011-2012 year of Rock to the Future.

Calling all rockin' local business! Help Rock to the Future by donating an item or service for the Rock to the Future raffles or purchase an advertisement in their ad book. Volunteers are always welcomed too. Please contact Jessica to see how you can help out! You don't need musical talent to volunteer your time to Rock to the Future.
