Recap of Winter Winery Tour
Last Saturday
I went on a Winter Winery Tour hosted by LivingSocial! My friends and I
purchased the tickets back in October and I'm so glad we did because we had so
much fun tasting wines at Crossings Vineyards and Sand Castle Winery in
Pennsylvania.
The day
started in Center City Philadelphia near the 30th Street Train Station and then
we hit the road on a bus to Bucks County. The first winery was Crossings Vineyards and Winery in Newtown, PA. That is where we enjoyed our first wine
tasting and lunch. We tasted 11 different wines that were made on-location. We
had a few pairings of wine with cheese and chocolate which was not only delicious
but very educational. The basic advise for getting the most flavors out
of wine parings is - Sip, Bite, Sip! We enjoyed Au Bon Pain sandwiches for
lunch at the vineyard before we get ready to go to our next stop.
Sand Castle
Winery was our second and final stop. The winery's main building is shaped like
a traditional castle. We had another tasting led by a very knowledgeable instructor
who taught us even more about pairing wine with different types of food. We
sipped wine with a variety of different food types including dark, milk and
white chocolate, wasabi peas, cashews and even a sprig of rosemary! After learning about the variety of Sand
Castle wines we headed down to the cellar where they do most of the winery’s fermentation
process takes place. The oak barrels (photo below) were pretty fascinating!
Overall I
think that the LivingSocial event was so much fun and it was a great way to
spend a Saturday! Check out what adventures they are offering in a city near
you.
I did this exact same event back in December with some of my girlfriends. It was a great time :)
