The Women of Beer Dinner Benefits Breast Cancer Awareness 10/25/11

Wondering why Boat House Row is outlined in bright pink lights? It’s because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Many Philadelphia organizations and businesses are helping to raise awareness about the terrible disease that has affected millions in our nation.

Among those who are joining the movement to make a difference is MidAtlantic Restaurant +Tap Room with a special dinner on October 25th at 6pm, The Women of Beer. MidAtlantic is selling tickets for the reservation-only dinner for $150 each. The menu includes eight courses of food and beer pairings. $50 of each ticket is generously being donated to the Philadelphia affiliate of Susan G. Koman for a Cure.

The University City restaurant is hosting women brewers from a variety of breweries on the east coast to be part of their first ever The Women of Beer dinner. The brews will be paired up with small dishes to accompany the unique flavors. The participating brewers are; Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales, Victory Brewing Co., Allagash Brewing Co., Brewery Ommegang, Rogue Ales and Stoudt’s Brewing Co.

If you have been following my blog then you already know that I love any excuse to drink beer and I also enjoy helping local non-profits.  This is the first time I’ve been able to feature both in the same post!  I think it’s important to help fight breast cancer because almost everyone knows someone who is or who has battled the devastating disease.  In my case I know two women who have overcome breast cancer, my Aunt Sue (my dad’s sister) and my best friend Ashley’s mother, Joni Mahon.  Both are strong women and I admire them for having to go through so much with a lot of dignity and grace.  I hope that no one else I care about has to ever  face the struggles that they have.
At MidAtlantic’s The Women of Beer dinner on Oct. 25th raise a glass in honor of those women who have lost the fight to breast cancer and also celebrate those who live to share their stories! Call MidAtlantic today and make reservations because tickets will be selling fast for this one-night only event!   Cheers!
